In September the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village outside of Edmonton hosts their Harvest Festival showcasing the harvest activities of a typical Ukrainian farming community from the early 20th century. Through costumed role-play the volunteers illustrate different aspects of life on the farm; from harvesting grain and shoeing horses to domestic activities like making sauerkraut and pickling beets. The Village was established to interpret the major theme of “Early Ukrainian Settlement in East Central Alberta to 1930.” Here's a few images from our visit there this fall.
